Post surgery recovery foods with Fountain Valley caregivers

Did you know that protien is possibly the single most effective food to take after a surgery? Protein contains amino acids which directly impact the body's ability to gain energy and heal itself in the aftermath of an invasive surgery. Elders experiencing slowness in recovery can ask our caregivers to provide delicious high protein meals for their health and wellbeing.

On average, a person can expect to lose 5 to 10 percent of total body weight after surgery. To infuse the body with calories and nutrition, consider protein first. Protein is needed to repair tissue, slow muscle loss and decrease the inflammatory phase. Post-operative protein requirements range from 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.Check out this lovely high protein recipe we at A-1 Home Care love!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know....

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 by the Pilgrims who had come over on the Mayflower, and the local Wampanoag people. There was a feast and games, and the celebration lasted for three days. The day that Thanksgiving is celebrated has changed often over the years. Prior to 1863, the President of the United States would make an annual proclamation of which day Thanksgiving would be held. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln officially proclaimed the last Thursday in November as the official national Day of Thanksgiving. In 1939, Franklin D. Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday of November, to stimulate the economy by lengthening the holiday shopping season. In 1941, Congress stated that from then on, Thanksgiving would take place on the fourth Thursday in November.

Wow! the history of our favorite feasting day is so rich and varied! Grandparents can share these nifty facts with kids as we settle into the holiday season.
